Anthony Molinaro - Rhapsody in Blue
Charley orchestrated Anthony Molinaro's arrangement of Rhapsody in Blue for its premiere performance with the Chicago Jazz Orchestra. Chicago Tribune arts critic, Howard Reich, praised the new interpretation, noting Charley for writing "Rhythms that pressed relentlessly forward, weaving New Orleans street beats and bebop-tinged passages into its instrumental fabric, Harrison crafted a Rhapsody that openly acknowledged -- even celebrated --jazz idioms that developed long after Gershwin's death in 1937."

Ralph Bunche Suite
Charley orchestrated and conducted the premiere of legendary jazz guitarist Kenny Burrell's "Ralph Bunche Suite," an extended work scored for a 35-piece jazz orchestra, augmented by special guest performers, Kenny Burrell, Hubert Laws, and Bobby Rodriguez. The piece was presented to coincide with the Centenary celebration of diplomat and Nobel Peace Prize recipient Ralph Bunche. (More Info) |
